About Us

On April 1, 1983, Lee and Lona Earl opened Adventureland Video in the vibrant 5-Points Mall. With only 190 VHS titles and 10 VCRs packed into 600 square feet, they set out to bring the movie theatre experience into the homes of everyone in the neighborhood. A few years later, they renamed the store to Top Hat Video and moved to a larger space within the mall. Now, Top Hat Video has a permanent home in Bountiful at The Square @2600. This eclectic, local hot-spot offers over 32,000 items for rent across multiple formats–including 4K, 3D, Blu-Ray, DVD, and various video game systems. With Lee and Lona’s vision, and exceptional community support, Top Hat Video has become more than just a video store with big dreams – it’s an experience.

New arrivals out today 5/21!

How to Train Your Dragon: The Hidden World, PG - When Hiccup discovers Toothless isn't the only Night Fury, he must seek "The Hidden World", a secret Dragon Utopia before a hired tyrant named Grimmel finds it first. There's a dinosaur species called Dracorex which literally means "Dragon King". Sorry Toothless, dinosaurs did it first.

The Upside, PG13 - A comedic look at the relationship between a wealthy man with quadriplegia and an unemployed man with a criminal record who's hired to help him. Dinosaurs like the Stegosaurus and Camptosaurus lived side-by-side and may have helped each other watch out for predators.

Isn't It Romantic, PG13 - A young woman disenchanted with love mysteriously finds herself trapped inside a romantic comedy. The most romantic dinosaur was probably Kosmoceratops, who had at least ten horns on his frill - most likely used to attract a mate.

Trading Paint, R - Veteran race car driver and his son overcome family and professional conflicts, balancing competition, ego, resentment and a racing nemesis to come out stronger on the other side. The fastest species of dinosaur was probably from the Ornithomimidae family, specifically the Dromiceiomimus.

Drunk Parents, R - Two drunk parents attempt to hide their ever increasing financial difficulties from their daughter and social circle through elaborate neighborhood schemes. The most famous dinosaur parent was the Psittacosaurus, whose fossil remains were the first to suggest that dinosaurs looked after their young even after they were large enough to leave the nest.

Happy International Dinosaur Day everyone!

New arrivals out today 5/14!

Cold Pursuit, R - In this latest installment of "Liam Neeson kills people", Liam Neeson kills people in the snow. Sometimes using a snowplow.

Fighting with My Family, PG13 - Probably the most relatable movie title this world has ever seen. Unless you don't have a family, in which case I would like to apologize on behalf of this movie for excluding you. But this movie is also about wrestling, so that "fighting" is probably literal.

Happy Death Day 2U, PG13 - There is sadness in the air, people dying everywhere but happy birthday, happy birthday.

Apollo 11, G - Didn't like the dramatized version of the Apollo 11 mission in 2018's "First Man"? Or maybe you loved it so much that you need more? Now you can sate your space-curiosity for a couple more hours while you watch this documentary about the Apollo 11 mission.

Backdraft 2, R - The long-awaited sequel to the 1991 classic that no one asked for. But if you want to see fire on screen, this is the movie for you!

Never Grow Old, R - An Irish undertaker profits when outlaws take over a peaceful American frontier town, but his family comes under threat as the death toll rises. Get it? He's an undertaker? And people are dying? So they don't grow old?

American Exit, PG13 - A dying father takes a road trip with his son, to try to rebuild their relationship. Only 10 people in the world took the time to review this movie on the IMDb. You could be the 11th person!

New arrivals out today 5/7!

Lego Movie 2: The Second Part, PG - The short-awaited sequel to the greatest product placement movie of all time.

What Men Want, R - Because they certainly couldn't make a sequel to "What Women Want" and have it star Mel Gibson.

The Prodigy, R - I have a feeling this one isn't about an actual prodigy. Unless you can be a prodigy at being possessed.

To Dust, R - A cautionary tale about a man who obsesses over his wife's decaying body. The caution to learn is: don't obsess about decaying bodies - bodies gotta decay, just let it happen.

Everybody Knows, R - A movie about high-stakes gossip.
And, you guessed it, everybody knows. Starring Penélope Cruz and Javier Bardem.

Blaze, R - Are you interested in country music? Specifically the Texas Outlaw Music movement? More specifically Blaze Foley? If you answered yes to any of those questions, this movie is for you.
