About Us

On April 1, 1983 Lee and Lona Earl opened Adventureland Video in the once vibrant 5-Points Mall. With only 190 VHS titles, 10 VCRs, and 600 square feet, they began their vision of enabling their community to bring the movie experience home. A few years later, they renamed the store to Top Hat Video and moved to a larger space within the mall. A couple of locations later, we now have a permanent home in The Square @2600 in Bountiful. Our ever-growing selection now includes over 32,000 items for rent across multiple formats including 4K, Blu-Ray, DVD, and various video game systems. With Lee and Lona’s vision, and exceptional community support, Top Hat Video has become more than just a video store – it is an experience.

Ballad of Lefty Brown, R - Your classic revenge western.

New Arrivals out today 2/6!

Only the Brave, PG13 - Only the brave put out wildfires, but only you can prevent wildfires.

The Stray, PG - If you're anything like us, you've been seeing this trailer since January 2017 and constantly thinking "When am I going to be able to watch this movie about a family that adopts a stray dog and also someone gets struck by lightning?" Today is that day.

Bad Mom's Christmas, R - The bad moms are back and this time their moms are there, too.

Suburbicon, R - An exploration into the ridiculous dark side of 1950's suburbia in this dark comedy written by the Coen Brothers and directed by George Clooney.

LBJ, R

New Arrivals 1/30!

Goodbye Christopher Robin, PG13 - Based on the true story of A.A. Milne and the creation of the "Winnie the Pooh" series. Starring Domhnall Gleeson who was also in the "Revenant" alongside Tom Hardy who was also in the film "Inception".

Last Flag Flying, R - A former Navy Corpsman reunites with his old friends to bury his son killed in the Iraq war. Bring the tissues. Like "Inception" it's about fatherhood, but it's no "Inception".

Boo 2! A Madea Halloween, PG13 - And that's all we want to say about that. It grossed $48 million at the box office as opposed to the $828 million "Inception" grossed. Both amounts include the number 8.

Geostorm, PG13 - A movie that nearly defies description. It almost feels like a full-length Saturday Night Live parody. Scientists have created a network of satellites to control the weather and stop global climate change. But, a worldwide geostorm is triggered when someone hacks the satellites, threatening the entire world with destruction. We were slightly disappointed that a sharknado was not involved. Get some popcorn, and be ready to laugh.

Thank You For Your Service, R - A group of US soldiers return from Iraq and struggle with PTSD. We can't make any jokes about this.

Jigsaw, R - People get murdered in creative and brutal ways. What, you expected me to write something witty and fun about this movie? Should have demanded the same thing from the screenwriter.

Killing of a Sacred Deer, R - We haven't seen this movie, and we can't quite figure out what it's about from the IMDB summary. But it has one of the best titles we've seen in a long time. Also we're pretty sure no deer were harmed in the making of this film.

New Arrivals out today 1/16!

Blade Runner 2049, R - In a sequel that we never thought possible, Ryan Gosling stars as a young Blade Runner searching for Rick Deckard, who's been missing for thirty years.

The Snowman, R - Do you like murder mysteries that don't really make sense? Freezing cold weather? What about Michael Fassbender? Or Val Kilmer slurring his words? J.K. Simmons playing a corrupt politician? Maybe snowmen are your thing? Then this is the film for you! Alas, if you're looking for a cohesive narrative, this is not the film for you. You know what would be a good movie to watch instead of this one? Wind River. If you haven't seen Wind River yet, watch it. It's more worth your time than The Snowman. Unless you're just a die-hard Fassbender fan.

Loving Vincent, PG13 - The story Vincent Van Gogh's final days depicted in oil painted animation.

Happy Death Day, PG13 - Just in time for Groundhog's Day: a high school student must live the final day of her life over and over again in a loop that will only end when she discovers the identity of her killer.
