About Us

On April 1, 1983 Lee and Lona Earl opened Adventureland Video in the once vibrant 5-Points Mall. With only 190 VHS titles, 10 VCRs, and 600 square feet, they began their vision of enabling their community to bring the movie experience home. A few years later, they renamed the store to Top Hat Video and moved to a larger space within the mall. A couple of locations later, we now have a permanent home in The Square @2600 in Bountiful. Our ever-growing selection now includes over 32,000 items for rent across multiple formats including 4K, Blu-Ray, DVD, and various video game systems. With Lee and Lona’s vision, and exceptional community support, Top Hat Video has become more than just a video store – it is an experience.

New arrivals out today 3/13!

Justice League, PG13 - Come for the superhero action, stay for Henry Cavill's awkwardly CGI'd upper lip.

The Shape of Water, R - "Free Willy" for adults! Oh and it won some Best Picture award at the Oscar's or something.

Ferdinand, PG - "Free Willy" but for kids and it's about bulls instead of a whale.

I, Tonya, R - The story of competitive figure skater, Tonya Harding. Pretty sure the moral is follow your dreams. Unless your dream involves breaking the leg of your competitor.

Disaster Artist, R - The story of the making of "The Room" - arguably the worst movie ever made. Coincidentally, we also carry "The Room" if you want to do a double feature!

Call Me By Your Name, R - A romance blossoms between a seventeen-year-old student and the older man hired as his father's assistant. Yet another movie that requires you to google what the age of consent is in a foreign country.

New arrivals out today 3/6!

Thor: Ragnarok, PG13 - Remember "Thor: The Dark World"? Of course you don't and you don't need to. Thor is back and funnier than ever as he must battle his sister (who also happens to be the Goddess of death) to save his home. It's a lot of fun, and you should watch it.

The Man Who Invented Christmas, PG - Don't let the title fool you, this is actually the true story of the creation of Charles Dickens' "A Christmas Carol". Not technically the invention of Christmas, but a timeless tale that would redefine the Holiday.

Lady Bird, R - A teenage girl comes of age in Sacramento. It is quite funny and has a lot of heart, in fact we need to admit that Greta Gerwig has mastered the coming-of-age story. We don't need a new one for at least ten years.

New arrivals out today 2/27!

Coco, PG - You probably haven't heard of this new animation studio called "Pixar". In their latest film, an aspiring musician, confronted by his family's music ban, enters the land of the dead to find his great-great-grandfather. The quality is remarkable and we here at Top Hat wish the best for this upcoming animation studio.

Murder on the Orient Express, PG13 - Based on Agatha Christie's classic by the same name. When a murder occurs on (you guessed it) the Orient Express, world-famous detective Hercule Poirot must solve the crime. If you've read the book or seen the 1974 movie, you won't be surprised. But the colors are nice.

Darkest Hour, PG13 - This movie exists because there definitely have not been enough biopics about Winston Churchill. The story of Winston Churchill deciding whether to negotiate with Hitler or fight against him. Historical Spoiler: he fights against him.

Three Billboards, R - First of all: No, I will not be writing the entire title, "Three Billboards" is all you need and all you get. On to the plot: A mother personally challenges the local authorities to solve her daughter's murder when they fail to catch the culprit.

Just Getting Started, PG13 - We're impressed with how low of a rating this received on IMDB (3.9/10) in fact, it almost makes us want to watch it more. An ex-F.B.I. Agent and ex-mob lawyer have to put aside their petty rivalry on the golf course to fend off a mob hit. Starring Tommy Lee Jones and Morgan Freeman - yep, you read that right.

New arrivals out today 2/20!

The Star, PG - The story of the Nativity as told by a small donkey and his animal friends. Inexplicably starring Keegan-Michael Key, Zachary Levi, Christopher Plummer, Mariah Carey and Oprah Winfrey.

Daddy's Home 2, PG13 - Yes, this is the sequel you've been begging for! Marky Mark and Will Ferrell are back and now must deal with their own intrusive fathers during the holidays.

Florida Project, R - Follows a six-year-old girl as she spends her summer getting into trouble with friends and bonding with her mother all while living in the shadow of Disney Walt Disney World. If you saw "Lady Bird" and liked it, you'll probably like this one, too.

Mom & Dad, R
