About Us

On April 1, 1983, Lee and Lona Earl opened Adventureland Video in the vibrant 5-Points Mall. With only 190 VHS titles and 10 VCRs packed into 600 square feet, they set out to bring the movie theatre experience into the homes of everyone in the neighborhood. A few years later, they renamed the store to Top Hat Video and moved to a larger space within the mall. Now, Top Hat Video has a permanent home in Bountiful at The Square @2600. This eclectic, local hot-spot offers over 32,000 items for rent across multiple formats–including 4K, 3D, Blu-Ray, DVD, and various video game systems. With Lee and Lona’s vision, and exceptional community support, Top Hat Video has become more than just a video store with big dreams – it’s an experience.

New arrivals out today 2/12!

Bohemian Rhapsody, PG13 - Have you heard of this band called "Queen"? No? That's okay, luckily for you there's now a movie so you can learn all about them!

The Front Runner, R - Hugh Jackman stars in this biopic about presidential candidate, Gary Hart. Pro-tip for people running for public office: don't have an affair during your run for office. Is it that hard? Just don't do it.

At Eternity's Gate, PG13 - A biopic about the final years of Vincent Van Gogh's life. Bring some Dramamine, the camera work will make you dizzy. Also the hair and makeup department gave Oscar Isaac a terrible mustache and goatee and I still haven't forgiven them.

Nobody's Fool, R - Tiffany Haddish is nobody's fool (get it?) as she investigates her sister's online boyfriend - a man most likely not who he says he is.

And for the Hallmark fans:
Once Upon a Prince, NR - Susanna accepts help from a handsome stranger at her parents' garden store. Sparks between them fly but Susanna is in for quite the surprise when she finds out that handsome stranger is the heir to the throne of Cambria!

Royal Matchmaker, NR - A struggling NYC matchmaker is hired by a king to find his son a suitable wife. The matchmaker finds him the perfect wife - only to realize that she has fallen in love with him!

New Arrivals out today 2/5!
We had a ton of new releases today, so I apologize about the long post. Let's start with the two new arrivals we're the most excited about: two new Hallmark movies!

They're Hallmark, I'm sure you can write the plots yourself:

Love on Safari, G - When _____ inherits an animal reserve in _______ she must decide whether to sell it and return to the safety of her life in _______ or risk everything and stay with _________.

Winter's Dream, G - A former _____ is asked to coach a younger ______ and finds _____ with the girl's ______ father.

The Grinch, PG - A remake of the Holiday classic. The same story you know and love. It would be nice if they switched it up a bit, maybe next time the Grinch could steal Arbor Day.

Girl in the Spider's Web, R - Along the same lines as "The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo" series. No spiders or webs were harmed in the making of this film.

Widows, R - Four widows (get it? like the title?) left with debt from their dead husbands' criminal activities take fate into their own hands and forge their own futures.

A Private War, R - Based on the true story of war correspondent, Marie Colvin, who fearlessly visited the front-line of conflicts across the globe to bring a voice to the voiceless.

Sisters Brothers, R - Yeah, I actually saw this one and I'm still trying to figure it out. At one point a spider crawls into John C Riley's mouth, lays eggs, and later those eggs hatch. Despite that scene, this movie is not about urban legends, it's actually a western.

Cloverfield Paradox, PG13 - Scientists on a space station test an alternative energy device and end up face-to-face with a dark alternate reality. Somehow this is also supposed to be related to "Cloverfield" and "10 Cloverfield Lane". Maybe it's that they all have "Cloverfield" in their titles.

Bernie the Dolphin, G - Kids befriend a dolphin and stop a villain from developing a beach or dumping toxic waste in the ocean or something.

Black 47, R - A drama set during the Great Famine of Ireland. Ah, de 'ol country.

New Arrivals out today

The Nutcracker and the Four Realms, PG - Not enough Tchaikovsky.

The Wife, R - A wife questions her life's choices as she travels to Stockholm with her husband, where he is slated to win the Nobel Prize for literature. Will we get a sequel titled "The Husband" in two years? Time will tell.

Boy Erased, R - The son of a baptist preacher is forced to participate in a church-supported gay conversion program after being forcibly outed by his parents. So this one just seems very depressing, bring tissues I guess.

Hunter Killer, R - An untested American submarine captain teams up with U.S. Navy Seals to rescue the Russian president, who has been kidnapped by a rogue general. Honestly, there's no joke I can make that would be funnier than the actual plot of this movie.

Indivisible, PG13 - Based on the true story of an army chaplain and his wife and the fight to save their marriage.

Suspiria, R - Looks to be a remake of the 1977 thriller of the same name. This one has a more psychological twist and Tilda Swinton . . . although those two things sort of go hand-in-hand.
