About Us

On April 1, 1983, Lee and Lona Earl opened Adventureland Video in the vibrant 5-Points Mall. With only 190 VHS titles and 10 VCRs packed into 600 square feet, they set out to bring the movie theatre experience into the homes of everyone in the neighborhood. A few years later, they renamed the store to Top Hat Video and moved to a larger space within the mall. Now, Top Hat Video has a permanent home in Bountiful at The Square @2600. This eclectic, local hot-spot offers over 32,000 items for rent across multiple formats–including 4K, 3D, Blu-Ray, DVD, and various video game systems. With Lee and Lona’s vision, and exceptional community support, Top Hat Video has become more than just a video store with big dreams – it’s an experience.

New arrivals out today 11/19!

Dora and the Lost City of Gold, PG - Can we all acknowledge that a producer watched the CollegeHumor parody trailer of an older Dora and decided to make it into an actual movie? Because that's definitely how this movie se hizo* - that means "was made".

Blinded by the Light, PG13 - A teenager learns to live his life, understand his family and find his own voice through the music of American rock star Bruce Springsteen. Believe it or not, this is based on a true story. It just goes to show, preteen girls aren't the only people who obsess over musicians.

Indian Horse, NR - From the IMDb: Follows the life of Native Canadian Saul Indian Horse as he survives residential school and life among the racism of the 1970s. Which raises the question: are indigenous people of Canada really called Native Canadians? Because you'd think they could also be Native Americans because they're still in North America. What are indigenous people of Mexico called? Do these questions have nothing to do with the actual movie?

Go Fish, PG - When a mysterious black goop reaches his idyllic undersea town, a brave and selfless parrot fish must cross the ocean to find its source and fix it before his coral reef is destroyed. I would rate this a perfect 10/10 if it ended with a very competitive game of fish playing the card game 'Go Fish'.

Angela's Christmas, NR - A short film about the innocent desire of a child to ensure everyone is safe, warm and loved at Christmas time. What a strange subject for a Christmas film!

New arrivals out today 11/12!

Good Boys, R - The irony of the title is that they're not good boys. In fact, they ditch school and embark on an epic journey while carrying accidentally stolen drugs and try to make their way home in time for a long-awaited party.

The Angry Birds Movie 2, PG - You know that app that was cool nine years ago? There's now two movies based on it.

47 Meters Down: Uncaged, PG13 - Do you think Shark Week has too many pesky facts and not enough thrills and suspense? Well then this is the movie for you!

The Peanut Butter Falcon, PG13 - Set in the world of a modern Mark Twain: A young man with Down syndrome runs away from the nursing home where he lives to chase his dream of becoming a professional wrestler. Viewer beware: there is no falcon made of peanut butter in this movie.

The Farewell, PG - A Chinese family discovers their grandmother has only a short while left to live and decide to keep her in the dark, scheduling a wedding to gather before she dies. Seems like an okay plan, until you realize every family has that one cousin or uncle that will definitely slip up and accidentally tell her that she's dying.

Brian Banks, PG13 - It's a football movie with a twist! The twist being that the star player is convicted and sent to jail but years later, he fights to clear his name within an unjust system.

After the Wedding, PG13 - A manager of an orphanage in Kolkata travels to New York to meet a benefactor. But I guess she ends up knowing the benefactor's husband or something. Intrigue and mystery. Something, something. I can't figure out what it's about. Just watch it, I guess.

A Snow White Christmas, NR - You know the fairy tale "Snow White"? And how it's definitely about Christmas? . . . You're saying it has nothing to do with Christmas? Well how do you explain this movie that has a very loose adaptation of the "Snow White" story that takes place over Christmas? How do you explain it???

New Arrivals out today 11/5!

Hobbs and Shaw, PG13 - They’re still fast and furious, they just don’t have the title. Does everyone remember this franchise started out as movies about street racing? Now it feels like the whole world would fall apart without these guys.

Scary Stories to Tell in the Dark, PG13 - Based on the book of the same name. Now you can see the horrific images brought to life with practical effects and CGI!

The Art of Racing in the Rain, PG - Have you ever wondered what it might be like to be a race car driver? This movie will not answer that question. But you will find out what it’s like to be a race car driver’s dog!

The Kitchen, R - These wives of New York gangsters are getting out of the literal kitchen and stepping into Hell’s Kitchen as they continue to operate their husbands' rackets after they're locked up in prison.

The Other Side of Heaven 2, PG13 - Because even church/faith movies want to have franchises now I guess.

Ophelia, PG13 - “Ophelia, he stabbed your dad through a curtain. So, instead of drowning yourself, you’re going to write a sad poem in your journal and move on. P.S. this is the best your hair has ever looked!” Now that’s an old reference.

Stockholm, R - Based on the absurd but true 1973 bank heist and hostage crisis in Stockholm that was documented in the New Yorker as the origins of the 'Stockholm Syndrome'.

Corporate Animals, R - A dark comedy about the scariest thing of all: a corporate team building event. Oh and they get stuck in a cave or something.

Hallmark:
Christmas Everlasting, TV-PG - So for this one the lawyer who is too busy for Christmas has to return to her small town for the holidays. And she definitely doesn’t fall in love.

A Joyous Christmas, TV-G - For this one an author returns to her hometown to promote her book and learns about Christmas. No love here either. Move along.

Road to Christmas, TV-PG - A TV producer is producing a Christmas Special for the 5th year but she is then told to co-produce it with the host's son. Initially, she's not too happy about it but - nothing happens. No one falls in love.
