About Us

On April 1, 1983, Lee and Lona Earl opened Adventureland Video in the vibrant 5-Points Mall. With only 190 VHS titles and 10 VCRs packed into 600 square feet, they set out to bring the movie theatre experience into the homes of everyone in the neighborhood. A few years later, they renamed the store to Top Hat Video and moved to a larger space within the mall. Now, Top Hat Video has a permanent home in Bountiful at The Square @2600. This eclectic, local hot-spot offers over 32,000 items for rent across multiple formats–including 4K, 3D, Blu-Ray, DVD, and various video game systems. With Lee and Lona’s vision, and exceptional community support, Top Hat Video has become more than just a video store with big dreams – it’s an experience.

New Arrivals out today 3/19!

Mary Poppins Returns, PG - It's Mary Poppins! And she returns! There will be singing, dancing, and Lin Manuel Miranda. What else did you expect?

Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse, PG - The 7th Spider-Man movie and 4th reboot (kind of) of the franchise we've seen in the last 17 years. But, from someone who has major Marvel-fatigue, I begrudgingly must admit that this movie is quite good.

Big Kill, R - Don't know what to say about this one, so here's what IMDb says: "A tenderfoot from Philadelphia, two misfit gamblers on the run, and a deadly preacher have a date with destiny in a boom town gone bust called Big Kill."

Being Rose, NR - Sort of like "The Straight Story" (you know, that movie where the guy travels across the country on his lawnmower). Except in this one, a woman learns she may have a terminal disease, embarks on a road trip on her motorized wheelchair and falls in love with an old cowboy. Did I just play Mad Libs with that plot? You'll have to watch the movie to find out.

PawParazzi, G - Have you been waiting for the next talking dog movie? Boy have I got good news for you. This movie is about a pampered dog and her celebrity owner who have their lives turned upside down. And if you have any doubts that this is a talking dog movie, have no fear, the movie starts with an newscast featuring a dog anchorwoman. This isn't a newscast for dogs, this is an actual newscast for humans with a dog as a news anchor. Starring Kristy Swanson (the original Buffy the Vampire Slayer) as Latte, the dog.

The Final Wish, NR - A horror movie where a son discovers a cursed item in his late father's possessions. Pun intended.

New Arrivals out today 3/12!

Green Book, PG13 - This year's Best Picture winner is here! Based on the true story of a working-class Italian-American bouncer who becomes the driver of an African-American classical pianist on a tour of venues through the 1960s American South.

Fantastic Beasts 2: The Crimes of Grindelwald, PG13 - Eddie Redmayne is back and causing mayhem in the wizarding world's version of Paris. Can't say there are too many crimes in this movie. If anything, the greatest crime is the title.

Mortal Engines, PG13 - Hey it's that movie you saw was playing when you went to go see "Mary Poppins" or "Bumblebee" or "Aquaman" for Christmas and you thought "Oh that looks interesting, but I'll wait until that comes out on disc to watch it." Well, the time has come! Based on the book of the same name, it has a plot that is rather impossible to describe. Suffice it to say, the city of London is on wheels and eating smaller cities while a rip-off of the score from "Mad Max: Fury Road" plays. This is one of the rare movies that I thought was actually better than the book. Try not to confuse it with "Mortal Instruments: City of Bones".

Like Cats and Dogs, TV-G - Our latest arrival from Hallmark! A reservation goes awry when two renters one with a dog and one with a cat must share a house. They're as different as cats and dogs (get it?) but will opposites attract? Spoiler: they do.

London Fields, PG13 - A Clairvoyant woman begins a tangled love affair with three uniquely different men: one of whom she knows will be her murderer. Basically, she is not following 'My Favorite Murder's' advice to "stay sexy and don't get murdered!"

Then Came You, NR - A hypochondriac working as an airport baggage handler is forced to confront his fears when a British teenager with a terminal illness enlists him to help her carry out her eccentric bucket list.Don't know how I feel about Arya Stark being terminally ill instead of killing people.

Vengeance: A Love Story, NR - Starring Nicolas Cage. And that's probably all you need to know about that one.

New arrivals out today 3/5!

Creed II, PG13 - Come for the Michael B. Jordan, stay for . . . the Michael B. Jordan.

Instant Family, PG13 - A comedy about foster care starring Mark Wahlberg and Rose Byrne. Is it an unofficial sequel to the 2008 classic "The Happening"? It can be if you want it to be.

The Favourite, R - Twou woumen vie four the favour ouf Queen Anne ouf England in the early 18th century.

Vox Lux, R - Is this just "A Star is Born" but starring Natalie Portman and Jude Law? Maybe it is, I haven't seen it.

Ben is Back, R - Where is Ben back from you might ask? Being addicted to drugs, I guess.

Dead Ant, NR - This is, unfortunately, not 90 minutes of a dead ant. Instead, it is a story of a one-hit-wonder band seeking a comeback but it also looks like there are some giants ants?

Standoff at Sparrow Creek, NR - If this crime-drama doesn't end in a standoff at Sparrow Creek, I know some people who will be very disappointed - namely, me.

The Clovehitch Killer, R - Not a great name for a serial killer.

The Vanishing, R - Some guys who work at a lighthouse find a chest of gold and mysteriously vanish. My money is on them moving to Cuba.

New arrivals out today 2/26!

Ralph Breaks the Internet, PG - Why isn't it "Ralph Wrecks the Internet"? But seriously, why?

Mary Queen of Scots, R - Based on the true story of Mary, Queen of Scots who was technically next in line for the British throne after Elizabeth I. It's a lot like Game of Thrones except there are no dragons and the white walkers are maybe the Scottish lords? I know, It's not a perfect comparison.

Possession of Hannah Grace, R - Don't let the title fool you, this movie is mostly about the haunting of Megan Reed by the possessed corpse of Hannah Grace.

Between Worlds, R - Just another Nicolas Cage movie. This one has some possession elements as well.

Happy Prince, R - Based on the final days of author, Oscar Wilde. Don't worry, I did the hard work for you, Wilde wrote such classics as "The Picture of Dorian Gray", "The Importance of Being Ernest" and "The Canterville Ghost".

New arrivals out today 2/19!

A Star is Born, R - The 2018 remake of the 1976 re-imagining of the 1954 remake of the 1937 classic. So when you say you want to watch the original, just make sure you know which original you want.

Robin Hood, PG13 - Two theories on how this insane remake got made:
1. It began as a modern re-telling of Robin Hood, but then someone realized it was basically "Batman" so they changed the names but kept the costumes.
2. It was meant to be a re-telling of "Batman" in medieval times, but then someone realized it was basically "Robin Hood" so they changed the names and didn't have the budget for the medieval costumes so they just went to the mall and bought some clothes.
Also, I cannot get over how bad the costuming choices were.
Also, the score is basically recycled directly from "Inception".
Also, I hated the costumes.

Overlord, R - A small group of American soldiers fight Nazi zombies on the eve of D-day. I've got to say, this movie had me at "Nazi zombies".

Can You Ever Forgive Me?, R - Let me answer that question with the title of the 2013 film starring Ryan Gosling, "Only God Forgives". This movie is based on the true-story of celebrity biographer, Lee Israel.
