About Us

On April 1, 1983, Lee and Lona Earl opened Adventureland Video in the vibrant 5-Points Mall. With only 190 VHS titles and 10 VCRs packed into 600 square feet, they set out to bring the movie theatre experience into the homes of everyone in the neighborhood. A few years later, they renamed the store to Top Hat Video and moved to a larger space within the mall. Now, Top Hat Video has a permanent home in Bountiful at The Square @2600. This eclectic, local hot-spot offers over 32,000 items for rent across multiple formats–including 4K, 3D, Blu-Ray, DVD, and various video game systems. With Lee and Lona’s vision, and exceptional community support, Top Hat Video has become more than just a video store with big dreams – it’s an experience.

Our October movie comes from Nina!
“I recommend the original Poltergeist (1982) for a good Halloween thrill. It’s not that scary, but is a classic.”
Swing by and grab it today and ask us about our very own Top Hat Video poltergeists.

Stuber - You know how Uber is a thing? Well, imagine you’re an Uber driver and a detective recruits you for a night of adventure and comedy.

Crawl, R - Remember that part of the original "Jumanji" when the house floods and there’s crocodiles and stuff? Imagine that, but it’s just a girl and her dad in the house. Oh, and they're alligators instead of crocodiles.

Night Hunter, R - Remember how in "Split", James McAvoy had multiple personalities and he abducted some girls and wasn't caught until the end? Imagine the multiple personalities and the abductions, but he gets caught at the beginning and the detectives have to try and find out where his victims are. And also Ben Kingsley is there and is vigilante straight out of "Dexter".

The Art of Self-Defense, R - Imagine if Lex Luthor enrolled in local self defense after being attacked by Batman and Superman. And imagine if that movie was an Indie comedy. I guess that’s it.

The Haunting of Hill House Season 1, TV-MA - Imagine a really good story about sibling relationships and familial strife based on childhood. Now add a haunted house. Holidays must be very weird with this family.

New Arrivals out today 10/8!

Toy Story 4, G - Woody and the gang are back and they're still toys!

Annabelle Comes Home, R - While babysitting the daughter of Ed and Lorraine Warren, a teenager and her friend unknowingly awaken an evil spirit trapped in a doll. Look, I don't find it unbelievable that an evil spirit is trapped in a doll. What I do find unbelievable is that a teenager is willing to babysit for the Warren's at all. No amount of money in the world would convince me to babysit for that family.

Midsommar, R- The director of "Hereditary" finally tackles what every other horror director hasn't dared to try: A horror movie in broad daylight. And according to my friend Matti, it is quite good. I'm too much of a coward to watch it.

Red Joan, R - A biopic based on the true story of Joan Stanley, who was exposed as the KGB's longest-serving British spy. So it's like "The Americans" if "The Americans" was about an old British lady. So not like "The Americans" at all.

Light of My Life, R - Parent and child journey through the outskirts of society a decade after a pandemic has wiped out half the world's population. As a father struggles to protect his child, their bond is tested. Someone asked me about this movie last week and thought it was a remake of "Children of Men". You know what's a great movie? "Children of Men". You should watch that one after this one.

The Wedding Guest, R - Dev Patel plays the worst type of wedding guest: the guest who kidnaps the bride. That's not a thing, you say? It is in this movie.

Deadwood: The Movie, TV-MA - Did you like "Deadwood" on HBO? Well now it's a movie! Cowboys still abound!

Hallmark Christmas celebration continues:
Miss Christmas, NR - The official tree finder for Chicago's renowned Radcliffe Tree lighting is left desperate to find the perfect tree. A letter from a young boy promising his tree is perfect sends her to a small town where she learns the young boy's dad isn't willing to part with his tree. While sparks fly, she'll be forced to confront what she's really been missing for Christmas. Do you think it's love? It might be love.
